We are glad to inform you that the third edition of our International Symposium, Homines, Funera, Astra III: Death and Fire in Ancient Times, will take place at the “1 Decembrie 1918” University of Alba Iulia (Romania) from the 15th to the 18th of September, 2013.
This scientific meeting will regroup archaeologists and anthropologists around the subject of funerary anthropology concerning the prehistory, protohistory, antiquity, and medieval periods.
Suggested topics for this year’s edition are: cremation, secondary burials with burning traces on the bones, forensic anthropology and forensic archaeology in the context of fire traces, lighting artifacts discovered in funerary contexts, historical and archaeological proofs of fire usage in funerary practices, fire rituals in funerary practices, partially burned human and animal bones in funerary contexts found in association with other remains that were not burnt.
The interdisciplinary approach will provide the opportunity to exchange viewpoints experiences and results concerning the proposed thematic.

Tuesday, 17 September: Lectures and panel session; Field trip
Wednesday, 18 September: Departure of participants
Papers and abstracts may be presented in English and French.
The publication of the proceedings of this international symposium has already been arranged.
